Isabelle Sava, 19-Year-Old Taekwondo Champion and Aspiring Lawyer, Dies After Cardiac Arrest
A young woman with extraordinary determination, a promising future, and dreams of becoming a lawyer has died at just 19 years old, leaving her family, friends, and Taekwondo community grieving a loss few could have imagined.
Isabelle Sava died in her sleep on August 17 after suffering an unexpected cardiac arrest, according to a verified GoFundMe established for her parents by family friend Adriana Agache.
Emergency crews reportedly did everything they could to save the young woman.
Agache described Isabelle's death as "completely unexpected," explaining that ambulance and air ambulance crews "fought desperately to resuscitate her and save her life."
"Tragically, despite everything they did, Isabelle could not be saved," she wrote.
No further details have been provided about what caused Isabelle's cardiac arrest. For those who loved Isabelle, the suddenness of her death makes an already devastating loss even more difficult to comprehend.
At only 19, Isabelle was at an age when life seemed to be opening before her. She had plans, goals, talents, and dreams she was actively pursuing. Now, those closest to her are facing a grief no parent or loved one ever expects to endure.
A Young Woman With Big Dreams
Isabelle was preparing to begin her second year studying law at Queen Mary University of London. She dreamed of becoming a lawyer and appeared determined to turn that dream into reality.
"She was intelligent, ambitious, focused and incredibly determined," Agache wrote. "She knew where she wanted to go in life, and she was prepared to work hard to get there."
Isabelle wasn't simply attending university. She was actively building toward her future. According to the fundraising page, she participated in her university's Law Society, Commercial Awareness Society and Student Advancement Society. She also contributed as a student blog writer for the Queen Mary Legal Advice Center.
For a young woman only beginning her adult life, Isabelle had already accomplished so much. But law was only one of her passions.
A Champion On and Off the Mat

Years of discipline and training eventually led her to earn a second-degree black belt and compete internationally.
In 2022, Isabelle competed at the World Taekwondo Championships in the Netherlands, where she earned a silver medal in sparring, according to Agache and the International Taekwondo Federation. Reaching that level of competition requires tremendous commitment.
Behind every medal are countless hours of practice, sacrifice, exhaustion, perseverance, victories and defeats. Isabelle apparently possessed the kind of determination that allowed her to continue pushing forward.
She also served as a Police Cadet and completed the Bronze and Silver levels of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, a youth development program in the United Kingdom that encourages volunteering, physical activity, skill development and expeditions.
Yet those who knew Isabelle want people to remember something even more important. Her accomplishments were impressive, but they were not what made her life valuable.
Remembering the Person Behind the Achievements
Agache described Isabelle as "kind, intelligent, loving, thoughtful, disciplined, compassionate and incredibly hardworking."
She was reportedly "ambitious without being arrogant" and "successful, but humble."
Those words tell us something a list of medals, academic achievements and awards never could. They tell us about her heart.
In a world that often measures people by titles, accomplishments, followers, money or recognition, the Christian faith reminds us that a person's true worth is much deeper. Every human life is precious because every person is created in the image of God.
Genesis 1:27 tells us, "So God created mankind in his own image."
Our worth does not begin when we win a medal, earn a degree or achieve our dreams. It is already present because we are God's creation.
For Isabelle's loved ones, it will likely be the personal moments they remember most, the conversations, laughter, kindness, determination and love she shared with those around her.

The Heartbreak of Two Parents
Perhaps no one will feel Isabelle's absence more deeply than her parents, Laura and Ovi Sava. Isabelle was their only child.
Agache described her as her parents' "pride and joy" and "best friend."
There are some kinds of grief that words cannot adequately describe, and the loss of a child is surely among them.
Parents expect to watch their children grow older. They imagine graduations, careers, marriages, birthdays, holidays and countless ordinary days together.
When a young life ends unexpectedly, families aren't only grieving the person they lost. They can also grieve the future they believed they would share.
"Nothing we raise can take away their pain," Agache wrote. "Nothing can replace Isabelle. Nothing can give Laura and Ovi back the future they should have shared with their daughter."
But she added something important. Together, people can surround Isabelle's parents "with love, kindness and support" and help remove at least one burden during what she described as the darkest time of their lives.
That is something Christians should understand deeply. Scripture tells us:
"Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn." — Romans 12:15
Sometimes faith isn't about finding the perfect words to explain tragedy. Sometimes it means simply being present. It means praying.
It means bringing a meal, sending a message, offering financial support when appropriate, sitting beside someone who is hurting, or allowing a grieving parent to speak their child's name. We may not be able to remove someone's grief, but we can help ensure they don't carry it alone.
When We Don't Understand Why
A death like Isabelle's naturally leaves people asking questions.
- Why did this happen?
- Why someone so young?
- Why someone with so much life still ahead of her?
- Why couldn't she be saved?
Christian faith does not require us to pretend those questions don't exist.
Throughout Scripture, faithful people cried out to God from places of confusion and sorrow. Psalm 34:18 offers a promise particularly meaningful during times like these:
"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
Notice that Scripture doesn't say God's people will never experience broken hearts. Instead, it tells us where God is when our hearts break. He is near.
When answers don't come, Christians can still pray for His presence. When grief is too deep for words, we can trust that God hears even the prayers we struggle to express.

Her Story Should Have Had So Many More Chapters
Perhaps one of the most heartbreaking statements shared about Isabelle came from Agache.
"Isabelle had so many plans. So many dreams. So much potential. And so much more to give to this world," she wrote.
Then came these words:
"Her story should have had so many more chapters."
For anyone who has lost someone young, that sentence may feel painfully familiar.
- There were supposed to be more birthdays.
- More photographs.
- More celebrations.
- More conversations.
- More ordinary mornings.
- More chapters.
Yet even when a life is far shorter than anyone expected, the love that person gave and the impact they made can continue through those who remember them.
Taekwondo Community Pays Tribute
Trenic TKD, a U.K.-based network of Taekwon-Do academies, honored Isabelle in an Instagram tribute on August 21.
"It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we share the devastating news of the passing of Isabelle Sava," the organization wrote.
The tribute remembered not only Isabelle's accomplishments but the person she was to those who trained beside her.
"Beyond her remarkable achievements on the mats, Isabelle was a pleasure to teach, train alongside, and know. She will be sorely missed by everyone who had the privilege of meeting her across the Taekwon-Do community."
The organization concluded by sending its "deepest thoughts, love, and prayers" to Isabelle's family and friends. Today, we join them in that prayer.

Heavenly Father,
We lift Laura and Ovi before You as they face a sorrow no parent should have to endure.
Lord, there are moments when human words simply aren't enough. This is one of those moments.
Please draw near to Isabelle's parents, family, friends, classmates, teammates, coaches and everyone whose heart is hurting because she is gone.
Give them strength for the days when getting through another hour feels overwhelming. Surround them with people who will love them patiently, listen without judgment and walk beside them through their grief. Bring comfort when memories bring tears and peace when questions have no answers.
We thank You for Isabelle's life, for her kindnes, determination, compassion, accomplishments and the love she shared with those around her.
May those who knew her carry the best parts of her memory forward.
