Hello friends this is Jim.
One of the most frequent comments we hear is when someone is going through a very difficult time, they ask us; "I feel that God does not hear my prayers, I feel that God is not there for me, and I feel like I am losing my faith."
Kim and I have had our fair share of heartaches and stressful times where we have asked... "Where are you God?"
We have had to foreclose on our house, survive the death of our only son, and both of us struggle with autoimmune disease.
If you are feeling like this, there are two principles we have learned.
1. The deeper your relationship with Christ becomes, you learn that whatever you are going through, you will be OK in the end. These sufferings are temporary. Jesus is there and He will see you through and provide for you. Out of all our trials, we have gone through, Jesus saw us through and it was always better after the trial. Yes, during the trial it does feel hopeless. I guess that is why James wrote this in his book:
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. James 1:2-6
If you are going through these hard times, push into Jesus. Just focus on Him. He is there for you.
2. If you are saying, "I "feel" like God does not love me, He is not there and does not hear my prayers"... These are your emotions. This is satan telling you lies. This is not the truth. Tell yourself that, then go to your Bible and read the truths. Focus on these. Write them on post it notes. Remind yourself daily. Here are some verses to get you started.
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5 (ESV)
"This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us." This is because we are constantly plagued with doubts, wondering if He hears us or listens to our prayers. 1 John 5:14
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:35-39 (ESV)
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? Matthew 6:26-27 (NIV)
