I imagine none of us likes to suffer in life. It is not pleasant and it hurts. If you are like me, you ask God to get you out of the situation as soon as possible. But, something amazing happens when we suffer. We gain a greater respect for those that are going through our same experience.

The one person that comes to mind is Jesus. We have a savior that understands what it means to suffer. We could never pray to Jesus; "You do not know what I am going through." Because He DID suffer all these emotions that we feel and more. To me that is such a comfort.
So the next time that you are going through a hard time, instead of trying to get out of it quickly, ask God, "What are you trying to teach me?" You may find that if you do this, the suffering may end sooner.
Here are some verses to encourage you:
Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. James 1:2-4
Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. Romans 5:3-5
Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. 1 Peter 4:12-13
