Boy Sells His Pokémon Cards To Pay For His Sick Dog

Bryson Kliemann, 8, has loved collecting Pokémon cards since he was 4, amassing hundreds in binders and lock boxes. His mother, Kimberly Woodruff, described them as his most prized possessions. When his new puppy, Bruce, a 4-month-old lab mix, fell ill with parvo, Bryson decided to sell his cherished cards to help pay for Bruce's treatment.

Despite Kimberly’s initial discouragement, Bryson set up a stand in their yard with a sign that read “Pokémon 4 SALE.” The community quickly rallied around him, with word spreading about his selfless act. Kimberly shared Bryson’s story on Facebook, leading to the creation of a GoFundMe titled “Just a boy trying to save his dog.

In just two afternoons, Bryson raised $400 selling his cards. Support poured in from strangers, including donations and even Pokémon cards to replenish his collection. The GoFundMe has since raised over $19,500, inspiring Bryson to help other families with sick pets.

The attention from local news and the Pokémon Company, which sent him rare cards, has been overwhelming for Bryson. However, Kimberly emphasizes his humble nature, noting that he just wants to be a kid. Amidst all this, the family has helped four other families pay for their dogs’ medical care.
