When I was in the process of becoming a Pastor, I had a mentor which I looked up too. His opinion of me matter greatly, and I tried to impress him. In looking back I took God off my pedestal and put him on that pedestal. Here lies the problem with that.... humans will always let you down and hurt you. Maybe they will do it on purpose, maybe they do it unintentional, but it happens. Why does it happen.... they are human.
The older I get the more I realize that it is God's opinion in my life that matters. Yes, I have close friends that I value... but again they are human with human feelings and emotions. The more I focus on God and the less focus I put on others, the more peaceful I become.
If you are always in a tizzy because people are judging you, and you are trying to impress the people that you value... STOP. Focus on trying to impress God, and read what God thinks about you.

The problem is perspective. All the feel good verses should make us feel secure in Christ. What about accountability? How about Ephesians 2:10 walking in the good works He has prepared for us? Someone holding us accountable to what we know is the right thing to do (James 4:7). "Focus on impressing God" The best line & worth quoting. Thank you for that. Now when I use it someone will think I'm judging. Oh yes, but we are to judge Christians to the Bible, you will know them from their fruit.
