Are Christians To Use Marijuana?

Marijuana is now legal in Washington and it look like it soon be in many more states. At one time I was right winged and thought that it was wrong, and anyone that used it was wrong. But 15 years ago I was diagnosed with a muscle wasting disease that causes a lot of muscle pain and discomfort. The only relief that I got from the pain was through oxys. These are terrible addicting pills. So after many years I decided to take Marijuana for my pain.

The whole process of buying marijuana was embarrassing and awkward. I have never taken marijuana so I had no idea what to ask or how to take it. The funny thing was that when I asked the people who knew about it, no-one could tell me anything because of the legalities of it, so I left frustrated and gave up the whole process.

It is legal for me to take, but is it beneficial for me? I have lived in pain every day for the last 15 years and most days I pray that Jesus to take away the discomfort or take me home. Am I an exception for taking Marijuana or not? Where do we as Christians draw the line?

As with any situation in life when I have a question, I turn to the Word of God. Here are two verses that I found:

“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be enslaved by anything."  1 Corinthians 6:12

"Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body."
1 Corinthians 6:19-20

You should not be controlled by anything in life except Jesus. Alcohol is legal for me to drink and I do like to drink an occasional beer or glass of wine, but it does not control me I control it. It is not the most important thing in my life.

My body is a temple of the Lord; I should treat it as such. I am also a shining example of Jesus Christ. If I walk around drunk or high I am not much of an example for My Lord.

I also believe that it comes down to the person. If they feel that they are not going to be able to control it, they should not cross that line.

I also feel that if a person wants to take marijuana is going to take it regardless of what the law says.

So, what are your thoughts or beliefs? What kind of example should we give others as Followers of Jesus Christ?

  1. If it's legal and keep it in moderation, such as alcohol and not getting drunk, I see no problem. Other medications that are legal can alter your ability to think and function and I feel it is the same as alcohol and pot. If you use anything to the point of not being in control of yourself, it becomes something else.

  2. Exactly like you said, "My body is a temple of the Lord; I should treat it as such. I am also a shining example of Jesus Christ. If I walk around drunk or high I am not much of an example for My Lord." I agree with this. We are to be an example. We are His peculiar people.we are not the norm. We are not to drink not to smoke. Yes i do at times do it But I feel the holy spirit grieving inside me. I know one day i will not be relying on weed alcohol to comfort me my pain my stressing no i will rely on our Lord Jesus Christ! I know He has already set me free! Free from all things of this world. No pain is to great for Him. The great I Am!

    1. Nothing should control you except the spirit of the Lord. Moderately having a drink or even smoking I feel it is alright. People condemn others for indulging in these enjoyments but...yet many of the stone throwers eat too much and are fat, talk about others behind their backs, tell lies for their own reason and ect.. Mary Mary sang it best "take the shackles off my feet so I can dance" basically personally praise our Lord and Savior Amen

  3. It has also become legal here in Canada and I am on several prescription drugs for pain, sleep and much more. If I were to try the pot and it worked, and I am the same, I would not know how to go about asking for it or getting it, but I would only take it at night to see if it helped me sleep. One of the meds I am on right now is Dilaudid and I know it is addictive but I have been on it for at least a year now and no, I have not gotten addicted to it, but at the same time, I don't feel that it helps. Marijuana is a natural plant that grows in the earth and if that helped me, I think it would be safer than prescriptions.

  4. I get debilitating migraines. I recently bought gummies which are legal in California. I chose gummies because I did not want to put anything into my lungs. It did help but not enough to really say "at last, a cure". Problem is every thing I have tried makes me so nauseous that it is more like a trade off. Nausea or migraine. I hate the little high I get off it. It feels horrible. If I had cancer maybe I would try again. But with the migraines I have lived with them all my life and often take fiorinalwith codine for them. Which is also very addicting. But in all these years the good Lord has prevented me from getting an addiction so I will continue putting my faith in Him and pass on the weed.

  5. Christians not under law having knowledge of principalities and powers of Satan spoiled sure like to take upon themselves demonizing various things of other cultures including medicinal herbal knowledge while having their own unchecked ways. It.breaks.my heart.the Christians in the trap of pharmacuticals that are harmful but legal. While.Marajuana gets stigmatised even tho there really is real non dangerous medical purposes It benefits by eating instead of smoking. I hear preachers do the society brainwash. It makes me cringe. I ignore things I know are not for them to decide based on world knowledge. Please do not use your own form of soccery Modern Medicine and then demonize natural plant based remedies. For those.self righteous folk who claim only to have faith in Christ but use pharmacuticals I hope you rethink yourselves and your supposed righteous judgement.

  6. Oh okay. I knew it's not a good idea about the addict drugs. My point is not an addict unless you have a good reason. It's the same thing about one cup of wine at the celebration party. Do you know what I'm meaning? God made herb with THC. Why God put it in the first place? I need to know about Jesus' answer about this. I can't find an answer from Him.

Here are just a few verses that speak of having a sober mind. Now if you smoke for pain relief and not becoming high as a kite then you are just fine to smoke. When your mind becomes altered from the drug the. You are vulnerable to the demons.

  8. When it causes you to sin and not function, if it alters your new life in Christ, then you must examine why you do it. I do have a mmj card, am a believer in Jesus Christ. I still pray, still read my word, and still believe in God. Nothing has changed, o still function, maintain, I don't preach my belief on the topic. My relationship is with God and the holy spirit still corrects me. That is why you have to have a your own personal relationship with God, cause if you don't, someone will always make you fell horrible, love is above all church.

  10. Like with any medicine it takes a time to get acclimated to your body if you smoke marijuana for the first time I guarantee you you will be high as a kite you’ll be high like that every time you smoke weed for a while then the side effect of being high like that will be gradually less and less I’ve smoked weed for over a decade and it’s something that motivates me to go and do all the things I love running weight lifting biking and generally lifts my depression to a tolerable point but you still need to realize you have to deal with your issues too just like if your in pain you need to find ways to improve your condition instead of looking to drugs of any sort to fix you prayer is the best way to find guidance and wisdom of to do I suffer from hip pain and nerve damage in my ankle I take pain meds but I’m also trying to strengthen and rehab my ankle and hip so I won’t need anything. I think weed can be a great thing to give some relief but it’s also not the wonder cure all I think a lot of people want it to be more than it actually is.

  11. Marijuana is first of all is a seed bearing plant. It has medical purposes but can be abused. Is not physically addicting. I have never heard of somebody dying from consuming marijuana nor have I heard of somebody robbing a bank for a joint. Now if you need to take prescription pills such as Xanax fentanyl Percocet morphine Oxys dulloden Percocet adderal to name a few are all prescription drugs.. and if caught by law enforcement with each one of these you will go to jail for possession of Narcotics ....they are manmade synthetic drugs which can kill you and can be physically and mentally addicting. now if you want to justify you're taking medications by saying it's prescribed by a doctor. and you want to sugarcoat it and say it's not drugs. or that you take it as prescribed doesn't make you an addict you're 100% wrong. I challenge you for those of you that are taking prescription drugs to not take them anymore and see how you feel. You will know if you are addicted. 10 try the marijuana maintenance because it is a prescribed certified medical necessity by a doctor. For those of you that like to justify it and see what it does for you it may or may not help. marijuana can help with pain help you with sleep so as a medical certified medical necessity prescribed by a doctor then I don't see any reason any basis as to say it's wrong.

  13. I do not condemn anyone talking Marajuana for pain or Health reasons; but for me, personally,I do not take because I don't want anything to interfere me hearing from God.

  14. Do not become a drunkard. Well, I think THC is in that category with regards to psychoactivity of THC. CBD oil has all the healthful benefits without the 'drunkard' stigma attached to it.

  15. For those who find no condemnation, there is no condemnation. For those who do find condemnation, than there is condemnation. If what you do, pushes you away from God, than dont do it. If it brings you closer to God, continue doing it. Anything that enters the body will not keep you from the gates of heaven, even if it does not edify the church.

  16. I am contemplating taking CBD oil. I believe one gets the same pain relief from this, but it has no THC in it so does not make you high but is a natural pain reliever.

  19. I had a lot of medicine for pain releave. They did me no good. So i prayed about it and now i am using cannabis oil. Not smoking it, but the oil. There is a great difference between smoking pot, or using cannabis oil. It does not make you high.Further i do it with a coach, who is in contact with severel doctors. Must give once a week a report, how it is going. My pain is almost gone and i don't use painkillers anymore. Also a lot of other medicine i do not have to take anymore. This plant was also created bij God. Use it wisely.

  20. I’m sorry but I disagree somewhat with what most of you are saying. I have reduced the poison I ingest from Big Pharm because of marijuana.
I do believe each person is different. I use marijuana legally, at one time I didn’t.
But having marijuana helps me cope with my life struggles. I’ve had many losses to endure and I do use it for physical pain and it helps tremendously but it also helps me spiritually and emotionally. I know when I’m lying to myself and I am positive God knows when I am crossing the line. Marijuana is just another vessel Jesus provides for us to choose to use wisely or to abuse it, and it is our choices that take us down the roads we travel. The Lord is the only one who fully sees my heart and soul and no matter what my brothers and sisters decide, I know only He can judge me. I adore my Lord and Savior and He adores me. Marijuana is a natural plant that can help you. You and your Master are the only ones that should guide you. You know when he frowns upon you. You know when you are crossing the line.
