How Jesus Died For You

Read 55 Amazing Facts On How Jesus Died For You

How Jesus Died For You

Below are facts on How Jesus Died For You. I do not think that we really understand how much Jesus did for us. Please share this post to spread the Good News of Jesus.

Crucifixion was invented by the Persians in 300 BC, and perfected by the Romans in 100 BC.

1. It is the most painful death ever invented by man and is where we get our term "excruciating."

2. It was reserved primarily for the most vicious of male criminals.
Jesus refused the anesthetic wine which was offered to Him by the Roman soldiers because of His promise in Matthew 26: 29, "But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father's kingdom."

3. Jesus was stripped naked and His clothing divided by the Roman guards. Psalm 22:18, "They divide My garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots."

4. The Crucifixion of Jesus was a horrific, slow, painful death.

5. Jesus' knees were flexed at about 45 degrees, He was forced to bear His weight with the muscles of His thigh, you are not able to do this for more than a few minutes without cramping.

6. Jesus' weight was borne on His feet, with nails driven through them.

7. Within a few minutes of being placed on the Cross, Jesus' shoulders were dislocated. Minutes later Jesus' elbows and wrists became dislocated.

8. Jesus limbs were dislocated so that His arms were 9 inches longer than normal.

9. Prophecy was fulfilled in Psalm 22:14, "I am poured out like water, and all My bones are out of joint."

10. After Jesus' wrists, elbows, and shoulders were dislocated, the weight of His body on his upper limbs caused traction forces on the Major muscles of His chest wall.

11. These traction forces caused His rib cage to be pulled upwards and outwards. In order to exhale, Jesus was physiologically required to force His body.

12. In order to breathe out, Jesus had to push down on the nails in His feet to raise His body, and allow His rib cage to move downwards and inwards to expire air from His lungs.

13. His lungs were in a resting position of constant maximum inspiration.

14. The problem was that Jesus could not easily push down on the nails in His feet because the muscles of His legs, bent at 45 degrees, were extremely fatigued, in severe cramp, and in an anatomically compromised position.

15. Unlike all Hollywood movies about the Crucifixion, the victim was extremely active. The crucified victim was physiologically forced to move up and down the cross, a distance of about 12 inches in order to breathe.

16. The process of respiration caused excruciating pain.

17. As the six hours of the Crucifixion wore on, Jesus was less and less able to bear His weight on His legs, as His thigh and calf muscles became increasingly exhausted. Jesus had shortness of breath.

18. His movements up and down the Cross to breathe caused excruciating pain in His wrist, His feet, and His dislocated elbows and shoulders.

19. The movements became less frequent as Jesus became increasingly exhausted, but the terror of imminent death by asphyxiation forced Him to continue in His efforts to breathe.

20. Jesus' lower limb muscles developed excruciating cramp from the effort of pushing down on His legs, to raise His body, so that He could breathe out, in their anatomically compromised position.

21. Jesus had pain from every movement.

22. Jesus was covered in blood and sweat.

23. The blood was a result of the Scourging that nearly killed Him, and the sweat as a result of His violent involuntary attempts to effort to expire air from His lungs. Throughout all this He was completely naked, and the leaders of the Jews, the crowds, and the thieves on both sides of Him were jeering, swearing and laughing at Him. In addition, Jesus' own mother was watching.

24. Physiologically, Jesus' body was undergoing a series of catastrophic and terminal events.

25. Because Jesus could not maintain adequate ventilation of His lungs, He was now in a state of hypo-ventilation (inadequate ventilation).

26. His blood oxygen level began to fall, and He developed Hypoxia (low blood oxygen). In addition, because of His restricted respiratory movements, His blood carbon dioxide (CO2) level began to rise, a condition known as Hypercritical.

27. This rising CO2 level stimulated His heart to beat faster in order to increase the delivery of oxygen, and the removal of CO2.

28. The Respiratory Center in Jesus' brain sent urgent messages to his lungs to breathe faster, and Jesus began to pant.

29. Jesus' physiological reflexes demanded that He took deeper breaths, and He involuntarily moved up and down the Cross much faster, despite the excruciating pain. The agonizing movements spontaneously started several times a minute, to the delight of the crowd who jeered Him, the Roman soldiers, and the Sanhedrin.

30. However, due to the nailing of Jesus to the Cross and His increasing exhaustion, He was unable to provide more oxygen to His oxygen starved body.

31. The twin forces of too little oxygen and too much CO2 caused His heart to beat faster and faster.

32. His pulse rate was probably about 220 beats/ minute, the maximum normally sustainable.

33. Jesus had drunk nothing for 15 hours, since 6 pm the previous evening.

34. He was bleeding from all over His body following the Scourging, the crown of thorns, the nails in His wrists and feet, and the lacerations following His beatings and falls.

35. Jesus was already very dehydrated, and His blood pressure fell alarmingly.

36. His blood pressure was probably about 80/50.

37. He was in First Degree Shock.

38. By about noon Jesus' heart probably began to fail.

39. Jesus' lungs probably began to fill up with Pulmonary Oedema.

40. This only served to exacerbate His breathing.

41. Jesus was in Heart Failure and Respiratory Failure.

42. Jesus said, "I thirst" because His body was crying out for fluids.

43. Jesus was in desperate need of an intravenous infusion of blood and plasma to save His life.

44. Jesus could not breathe properly and was slowly suffocating to death.

45. At this stage Jesus probably developed a Haemopericardium.

46. Plasma and blood gathered in the space around His heart, called the Pericardium.

47. This fluid around His heart caused Cardiac Tamponade (fluid around His heart, which prevented Jesus' heart from beating properly).

48. Because of the increasing physiological demands on Jesus' heart, and the advanced state of Haemopericardium, Jesus probably eventually sustained Cardiac Rupture. His heart literally burst. This was probably the cause of His death.

49. To slow the process of death the soldiers put a small wooden seat on the Cross, which would allow Jesus the "privilege" of bearing His weight on his sacrum.

50. The effect of this was that it could take up to nine days to die on a Cross.

51. When the Romans wanted to expedite death they would simply break the legs of the victim, causing the victim to suffocate in a matter of minutes.

52. At three o'clock in the afternoon Jesus said, "Tetelastai," meaning, "It is finished." At that moment, He gave up His Spirit, and He died.

53. When the soldiers came to Jesus to break His legs, He was already dead. Not a bone of His body was broken, in fulfillment of prophecy.

54. Jesus died after six hours of the most excruciating and terrifying torture ever invented.

55. Jesus died so that ordinary people like you and me could go to Heaven.

Will You Be With Me In Heaven?

All Jesus Asks You is to Love Him, Your Lord, Your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind.

    3. If you are a knowledgeable atheist, you know science is against you and that life has no purpose, no love, no meaning, no beauty, and no free will. If you're more like those who care about this, then you know that He is Risen, He is Risen Indeed. You don't have to believe that, you can go back to your meaningless chemical experience responding to electronic stimuli ... but for the rest of us, knowing that there is a loving, creative, and omnipotent creator of the universe ... we look forward to tomorrow's celebration. God Bless.

    4. Drake , my God have pity on your soul. You need to read and study more than your mouth utters.

    5. Drake, I wonder why you are even here, reading the articles posted on this site. If you are a non-believer, or need scientific "proof" to believe Jesus exists, then why are you here? Propaganda? Not to believers. Can we explain it? Why should we have to? Our believing is not hurting you in the least. We are not bothering you or trying to make you believe what we believe. No one is forcing you to read the articles posted here. I fail to understand why atheists are so threatened by believers. Why must you tear us down, try to take away our belief? Move on, read articles on a site where you agree with them, and stop trying to cause trouble. No matter what you write here, you will not change my mind. And why should you want to? Again, my belief in Jesus Christ is not an attack on you, nor is it hurting you in any way. Try kindness.

    6. You're very uneducated. You don't need a postmortem to know that a hot flame burns flesh. There are very many ways forensic evidence is gathered and examined.

  2. Most of the info came from "the Cross and the Shroud: A Medical Inquiry into the Crucifixion" written by forensic pathologist dr Frederick Zigibe. He spent over 25 years researching the shroud of Turin and even crucified cadavers and medical students to learn almost precisely how jesus died. Amazing book!

    1. the shroud of turin has been proven by Christians, atheists and scientist to be phony, it is merely a representation of the crucification not an actual imprint of the body of any man but more likely a painting or drawing representing such an event.

    2. WRONG. It has not been proven. The fact is they still can not determine exactly the image appeared. Even dozens of various test have been preformed, the answer still eludes them. Try reading more than you atheist heart wants you too. READ. I am not just one of the Christians that want to believe, but a more knowledgable Christian than you are a atheist. RESEARCH before you spout. May God Bless you.

    3. Wow, Dmitri, your response is so hateful. You don't know that the person above is an atheist. You just assumed and judged him for sharing a comment. Your response shocked me. I see many condemning, hateful responses on here from Christians replying to nonbelievers. This isn't the way. God teaches us to embrace those who are lost and lead them to his fold. Being hateful and snarky is not the way to do this. We must be loving and kind and live like proper examples of Christ's love. It's a shame that I feel so much hate on this board.

As for what he said, he was simply misinformed, as was I until recently. There was a lot of research done on the Shroud and the carbon dating originally concluded that the Shroud was from medieval times, leading scholars to believe it was a replica rather than the original piece. It was only in 2013 that this was challenged by new carbon dating. Having two different results, technically makes it inconclusive until it is performed repeated and comes up with the same result. He didn't know this information and should be corrected instead of reprimanded.

    1. I am so sad that you feel abandoned. Sometimes, other people's behavior makes us feel like God has abandoned us, when often God is crying with us. I don't know if this is your situation, but I pray that you will feel God's loving embrace.

    2. no he has abandoned us. after i went to confession the father has told me i am the one who sinned, i should turn myself in for not doing anything about it, and god will never forgive me. i do not accept the fact the girl marries her rapist and if she is not a virgin then she is to be stoned. god is truly dead. instead of praying for abuse to stop i would actually do something about it & stop it.

    3. I am so sorry this was your experience. I understand why you feel abandoned. I believe as you do that rape is on the rapist, not the victim. Rape is not just a physical act, it leaves emotional scars that can take a lifetime to come to grips with. If God abandoned people who suffered through rape, I would not be able to feel His presence in my heart, but I do. One day when I was all alone in my room, I asked God to come into my life and forgive my sins (I did not see rape as one of my sins). I have had a relationship with God ever since. Please try talking to God directly. I will be praying for peace for you. This must be so difficult.

  8. The part about breathing is false, but otherwise this post was pretty informative!

The primary mode of respiration is through the diaphragm. It contracts from a dome shape to a flat shape which decreases the pressure in the lungs forcing air in and pushing the belly out. It is POSSIBLE to breath using solely the intercostal muscles of the ribcage, but this method doesn't provide as much oxygen.

  10. One not need to believe or not believe scientific conjecture to know that Jesus died. He died for us to cleanse us of our sins. One only needs to know that HE HAS RISEN INDEED !!!

  11. Glory to GOD, Christ is risen!!!! And I think that instead of criticism that "thanks" is the more appropriate response to what Christ did for us. Would anyone of us give our child or ourselves for that matter to die for filthy sinners? For people without thanks and appreciation.... The answer is "no".... and abandoned? No, God has NOT abandoned us, we have abandoned him and his teachings. Our world is proof of that!

  12. Landon, if the ribs are pulled away from ad up from the rib cage it affects the lungs tremendously. Ever had a broken rib? If not, it is difficult to breathe, using the lungs or the diaphragm, because the pain is to great. One thing though, the article stated that the thieves on both sides of Jesus laughed but what about the thief beside him that asked for forgiveness and Jesus told him,"this day, you will be with me in paradise," Don't think he was laughing ad asking for forgiveness at the same time. Also, were the others being crucified not in pain? If so, how were they able to laugh and yell at Jesus through the pain. The medical portions in this article are pretty accurate but some things are off!! Just my opinion as a Christian.

  19. Response to the Christian blog on the torture and death of Jesus by way of crucifixion.

Such moving and spirited dialogue, impregnated with diverse views, whether athiest, agnostic, Christian or just Godly minded. With respect to the sensitivities of all, please realize the premise of the article was from 1960s medical perspective and occasionally revived. At best it is a combination of fiction and nonfiction, porous throughout. The subject merits greater accuracy and an objective approach. As a physician who has spent an entire career teaching, lecturing, practicing and specializing in Trauma & Emergency Medicine, I have studied the crucifixion from the trauma perspective as well as historical and "religious". The reality is that every scientist, historian, & "expert" must endure all personal bias & concede that we are trumped by the verdict of Pontius Pilate as expressed when he was asked after the crucifixion for the body of Jesus. This Roman Governor whose government had practiced uncountable crucifixions, was & still remains the truest expert whom we must concede our "expert testimony" whether we like it or not. His undeniable & spontaneous response was, "What?...is he dead"??
You see, he was in utter disbelief because this crucifixion was never meant to kill Jesus, especially in the matter of hours he suffered after the lashings & torture. A sea of Trauma literature demonstrates survival from horrific trauma and especially in the case of Jesus, the historical evidence of survival is even more compelling than that of death.
Let us consider this: since the views blogged & expressed by the many contributors include atheists as well as non athiests, it is well understood that there are many arguments from athiests for no God as there are even more arguments from non athiests favoring the existence of God.
In like, while there may exist some medical articles on the death of Jesus, I assure you we also have a powerful and compelling case for the survival of Jesus from the Trauma, Medical, Biblical as well as Historical perspective. So what does that change? A beautiful man of God who spoke only of good was brutally inflicted for his love for mankind and his Creator. I for one have a deeper profound love and regard for such an individual that we call the Christ.
A career in Trauma has given me humility and pause to reflect on the resilience of the human body and it's will to survive. I will do my best to keep in the loop of discussion time permitting but do hope that we appreciate the reality & glory in his survival of the cross to trump that which is perceived in his death. Peace

  23. Christ said that those that are his, will hear his words and believe. It is not necessary for us to convince anyone of what our faith really is. Faith in Christ and Our Heavenly Father along with the Holy Spirit, are between them and us and does not include anyone else. Just as you can not bring someone by force into the Kingdom of God, denying it to be true, does not detract from how much your faith will help you endure to the end. Just believe and testify, if someone hears your testimony, it just might be what is needed to save them also. If they do not hear it in their hearts, there is little hope of you or anyone else reaching them.

  24. Some of that stuff is pure guessing I only trust what the bible says happened .One point is scripture says he was unrecognizable as even being human .That how bad he was beat and whipped and nailed to the cross .So any claim image of him on the cross should be so disfigured that again unrecognizable. Now for the true biblical gospel https://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/1097/1097_01.asp not to be confused with false gospel of churches like catholic or Mormon
